Cup o’ Lily?
You know – when you make a bet with someone and time starts going by and you still haven’t received the payoff, you start to worry.
Well, this wasn’t one of those times. I knew the person I made a bet with this past fall would live up to his end of the bargain. I won this bet over an Eagles – Buccaneer football game when I bet that the Bucs would not only win the game, but do so without scoring an offensive touchdown.
I received my winnings today – coffee and a new mug. I would have been happy to have the coffee and a styrofoam cup with a design drawn on it with a sharpie marker. Instead, I received a truly nice mug adorned with one of my favorite pictures of Lily…
Nice job – and Thanks!

Ten AM
Woo hoo! We’ve hit 50 degrees in Brandon!
The Future’s Market isn’t open yet, so no word on OJ prices but it sounds like we barely hit the freezing mark last night, so we shouldn’t get too much bad news there.
A little cold weather is usually good for the strawberries!
I got an interesting email regarding Barbaro. Dont’ get me wrong – I was pulling for him too. Even the meanest of people still care about their animals. Amazing how we can treat people (even our own families) the way we do yet we love on our pets and animals – even those we’ve only read about and watched on TV. It’s horse racing I’m not a fan of.
33 degrees
Thirty three degrees last night! The freeze warning pump on my pool came on!
Another Tampa-Newark special on Continental! They’re killing me! How many of these can I dodge before I suffer the consequences?
Barbaro euthanized after lengthy battle
Kentucky Derby is in 96 days. Enjoy.
Hi Grandma!
I’m happy to say that I’ve never used a Tazer on my grandmother.
Monday, Monday, Monday
37 degrees last night!
Lily got to pick a strawberry off of her strawberry plant this morning and have it with her breakfast. We are eating strawberries for every meal nowadays. They are sooo good this year – big, meaty berries. We’ve been getting a flat on the weekends and eating them fresh with every meal. Then we have shortcake after Lily goes to bed.
Got to try and get a hair cut today.
Ahhh…Sunday
Darn it’s cold outside. We have windchill warnings! Temps are supposed to drop into the low 40’s and the wind should make it feel in the low 30’s! Dont’ worry – tomorrow’s high is still in the mid 60’s.
You’ll be happy to know the house is still standing after Tampa’s pirate invasion this weekend. I think the Mayor gave up the city sometime on Friday.
We have a nice fire going tonight. Got a lot done this weekend – shopping, cut the grass, cleaned inside, folded laundry. Even gave Weezy an accidental bath when she fell in the pool chasing a piece of cheese.
Ahh….Friday
Well, we hit 36 degrees last night. It’s sunny, slight breeze and about 50 now. Snow in El Paso. It’s supposed to only warm up to the mid 60’s today.
Iguana faces amputation
Ok, we’re all adults here, right? I’ve wrestled all day about whether or not to post this story because of its slightly “adult material”. But it is on MSNBC.com and I do have an iquana, so I’ve decided to post the story.
NJ Cracks Down
New Jersey may have unresolved problems with taxes, child welfare and gangs, but lawmakers are ready to crack down on one perceived danger: talking on a cell phone while riding a bike.
(sorry, the NJ stories just seem to be easy to come by today)
N.J. warns residents…Don’t Eat the Squirrels
You know, if it isn’t safe for the squirrels it AIN’T SAFE TO VISIT!
Yuck
Nasty morning in Cent Florida today. The temperature was 45 when I got up and it was raining. Supposed to clear up later this afternoon and get cold tonight. It’s soooo cold outside. I took Lily out with me to take the garbage down to the curb and she complained the whole time about the cold. After the garbage, I went out back to dump some peanuts for the squirrels – usually one of Lily’s favorite things to do. She stopped at the door – no way she was going back out.
As I was leaving this morning, I kissed everyone good bye and headed for the door. As I locked the door behind me, I heard Lily inside screaming something at me. I opened the door to see what she needed to tell me…
“Have a fun day at work!”
Ear tubes don’t make a difference
I tried to tell ya’ll I didn’t need those things…
Keep your brain sharp
Soaps and talk shows don’t count.
SOTU
Did you watch the State of the Union last night? I couldn’t keep my eyes off Nancy Pelosi. What was with all the lip licking? She was playing with her mouth like she had a piece of popcorn stuck in her teeth. Very distracting.
Who?
On my way to work, I pass no fewer than 4 hand written signs staked down in the median advertising financing for buying a house. It offers 2% interest, nothing down, blah, blah, blah. But it’s hand written. Scrawled in Sharpie marker. Who are these people that respond to an offer like this?
State of the Union
I heard it mentioned on the radio this afternoon that President Bush isn’t as worried about deliverying his SOTU speech to a room full of Democrats as he is worried about a woman standing behind holding a hammer.
Continental
What did I do to upset the powers-that-be at Continental? That’s two weeks in a row that there is a special from Newark.
I hope their stock goes down today.
Hi all
We made it home. Lily slept for an hour of the trip and we stopped in Plant City for (more!) strawberries and some shortcake.
It rained this evening, almost 1/10th of an inch, just enough to wet things and make it very, very humid.
I’ll get the webpage updated soon. Just be patient! I only took 238 pictures over the last four days, so there should be plenty for the POTD.
Lily was up bright and early again this morning insisting on a sunrise walk. This time, we took about an hour and she and I played in the sand. It was low tide and we had the beach all to ourselves – just us, the sunrise and the seagulls. We tracked a racoon for awhile, following his footsteps in the sand until we realized how far we had gone.
So, our little vacation is over and tomorrow it’s back to our routine. The weather is supposed to be nasty the next couple of days. Nighty-night!
Nice today!
Just to show you how thoughtful Diane is…she had me check the weather for a few locations just to see how everyone was enjoying their Sunday afternoon.
We are enjoying our last evening at the beach – unbelievable weather today – sunny, nice breeze, warm. Lily has made friends with a few other kids staying here and is a favorite of the folks who work here!
Sunrise, 7:11am, Jan. 21, 2006
Well, I know the pics look just like yesterday’s, but this is this morning’s sunrise. Lily was in a full panic this morning as she woke me up….”Hurry Daddy! We are going to miss the sunrise!!!!” Even though we originally decided last night to sleep in, Lily and I headed down to the beach for our sunrise walk.
Vacation!!
You forget how clear the sky is until you go to the beach at night. The sky is SO clear you can see a million stars. And the waves…oh my gosh, the waves are so loud. Not sure what it’ll be like sleeping with all that ruckous.
We went down to the beach which is 50 yards of the smoothest, whitest sand you’ve ever seen.
Lily chased the seagulls away… ![]()
She skipped her nap today, so bedtime came quickly tonight. Tomorrow should be more of the same!
Stay tuned….
Finally
Well, I don’t know about you…but I had a really good day today. Very good lunch, very good conversation – kind of a neat day. Had a couple of conversations with a couple of people that I really enjoyed. Spent almost the entire day on the road, and didn’t get home until later, but it was worth it. Is that vague enough? Makes you wonder who I saw and what we talked about, doesn’t it? Good.
And, I’m officially on vacation for the next 4 days!
Lily is on her way to Sleepy Town. The windows are open and a nice breeze is moving through the house. It’s nice and quiet outside with temps in the low 60’s. Doesn’t get much better than this.
In the news…
Betty White is 85 years old.
Did you see the story on the embryo rescued from defrosting in a clinic damaged by Hurricane Katrina. Well, the embryo is now a 7lb boy born to the Louisiana couple who survived the storm and flood. Know what they named their boy? Noah. No kidding.
Canada has a new TV show called “Little Mosque on the Prairie”.
Largo, FL… A father and son were both ticketed for running the same stop sign by the same officer about a half hour apart. Both said they were running late for work.
Continental
Anyone get the Continental specials for the week??? Good weekend to come to Brandon!
We won’t be here!!!!!!
Florida in January
I almost feel bad bragging about the weather considering what the majority of the country is suffering. It’s been in the mid 70’s, maybe low 80’s for the better part of a week now. We’ve taken daily walks in the evening down to the lake to feed the ducks and seagulls. Lily has been going in the hottub every day, and the windows have been open. This big front that has messed up everyone else is supposed to bring us about a 20% chance of rain and temperatures in the mid 60’s!
Is it Friday yet?
Wow, busy day. I’ve had 45 incoming calls and I quit counting at 20 outgoing. I’ve faxed almost 30 pages to 8 different numbers, sent 24 emails and received 42.
Oh, forgot the 3 pages I had to get ready for UPS.
Now you know why I haven’t posted much today. Sorry!
Rest of the state should hate Florida Gators
“The Gators think Gainesville is THE place to be in college football.
It’s time for all of you to give the Gators and their fans what they love most:
Your hate.
They’ve certainly earned it. “
Miss New Jersey USA resigns over pregnancy
I’ve got SO MANY comments I could make here about Jersey girls and every single one would get me in trouble.
Are you working today?
I am. And it’s been a busier Monday morning than usual for some reason. I didn’t get in here until almost 9:30 and by then I had 6 messages waiting for me.
Lily is off to her play class. She’s in such a good mood lately – it’s fun to watch. Saturday morning, she and I literally snuck out of the house to go get donuts. I put her in the car seat, still in her pajamas and went through the drive thru. This morning, she was trying to ask if we had anymore donuts but she couldn’t remember the word ‘donut’. So she was asking if “we were going to get some more of those things?” I said “What things?” And she said the “things we got at the store?”
“The grocery store?”
“No, the other store we went to that time in my pajamas”
