Just found out Lily was accepted into the Preschool we applied for a couple of weeks ago!

Boy dies from toothache

Glad I saw this after my dentist appointment this morning.

I sure got worked over this morning too.  I didn’t have a very good appointment.  I still have all four wisdom teeth and they are in a bad spot.  They are kind of half in and half out.   My hygenist, Brenda, really had to scrap on them.

Bad cholesterol news for garlic lovers

Oh, this isn’t good.  I just had Olive Garden for dinner tonight.  I had the Seafood Portofino…with EXTRA garlic.  I asked the server for extra garlic and the cooking person guy didn’t dissappoint.  I had tons of garlic (tonnes for those of you “across the pond”) on my food.  And I ate every diced morsel.

Chain Restaurants Charged With Promoting “X-treme Eating” ~ Newsroom ~ News from CSPI

We are eating out tonight, so that had me curious what the calorie count was going to be for the seafood Alfredo I was hoping to get at Olive Garden.

I haven’t found the Olive Garden’s count yet, however, I did find this story…

Here’s the Apples vs. Pears debate.

Pretty much if your waist size is over 35 in. for women and 40 in for men, you are fat.  They say don’t watch the scale, just watch your waist.

And don’t eat too much strawberry shortcake.

Monday Morning

Well, there goes a three day weekend.  I think it makes Monday mornings feel worse when you have to bury a three day.

Our weekend began Friday with a fun filled trip to SeaWorld.  Seventy-two hours later and Lily is still pretending to be Shamu.  Skeeter and Weezy have been morphed into sealions.  Lily does a great Shamu impression in the hottub.   We sat in the Soak Zone for the Shamu show and Lily loved getting splashed by the whales.  We fed dolphins, petted the stingrays and saw a sealion show.  Fun, fun.

Saturday was actually a fairly normal one for us.  I worked on Lily’s sandbox, which is filled to the brim with fresh new sand.  About 2500lbs worth!  We went to Plant City for strawberries and shortcake.  That was about it!

Sunday I mowed the yard, and Lily played in the hottub.

There is a line of storms moving in this morning, but it’s supposed to be nice later this afternoon.  It was a beautiful weekend to be outside – mild temps just hitting 80 by yesterday afternoon.  We finally turned on the air condition to give Diane some relief from my Super Oak in the backyard – it’s covered in pollen and Diane loves to roll in the leaves under the tree which leaves her sneezing.

I’ve left a pile for the garbage men this morning.   I couldn’t figure out how to get my garbage cans frozen to the curb so I filled them with ice instead!  Hahahahahahah!!!!  Take that Solid Waste Collector Man!

I love talking to people in the UK.  They refer to us (Americans) as their “friends across the pond” and they say “cheers” instead of “goodbye”.

Oh, what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day…

Spring has come to Florida.  Blue skies, no clouds.  Mild temperatures.  The oak trees have a brilliant, bright green color with new leaves.  Just amazing weather.  I took the garbage out this morning and just paused, took in a deep breath and thought to myself, “Somewhere, someplace, someone isn’t as fortunate as I am.  After all, my garbage cans aren’t frozen to the curb.”

Duck in the pool this morning.  Every year, about now, a mallard or two discovers our little oasis and hangs out until we feed them.

I have no business blogging this morning as I’m swamped here today.  I haven’t had my coffee or read my paper even and I’ve got a “to-do” list that is growing by the minute.

When asked, he says he isn’t sure this will make him drink less.

As pets live longer, doggie dementia on the rise

You know, it’s actually sad watching your dogs age right before your eyes.  Weezy just turned 12.  She now has more grey than brown in her face and she limps for a couple of minutes when she first gets up.  She also doesn’t listen as obediently as she used to.  But she’s going strong, she’s healthy and stays very playful.  But she has a stubbornness about her that won’t quit these days.  She won’t take no for an answer and if she wants something, she’s going to whine until she gets it.  It’s like having two Lilys around except you can’t put Weezy on ‘time-out’!

Presidents’ Day +1

Happy Birthday to my friend Wendy!

Not a very smart crowd at Starbucks this morning.  Seems people forgot how to form and stand in a line.  Instead of snaking through the shop so we could all stay warm, we had to stand outside.  And then some lady at the front ordered 8 drinks, while talking on her cellphone and then she didn’t have any money.  So she just walked out – no explanation or nothing – just rude.

Lily still has a little cough this morning.  She slept better last night, but she woke up once around 9:30 and was up for an hour before finally going down for the night.

Like the Knock Knock jokes?  I keep playing them at work – I think they’re hilarious.  See the curler in her hair?  She wants to look like her mother in the mornings.

We got the garden planted last night.  Lots of flowers and veggies.  Lily is quite the little gardener – very good with a shovel.  Of course, after she digs a hole, she’d rather sit in it than plant.  She’s also learning to watch her step and not step on our new little plants.

Presidents’ Day

So does Presidents’ Day honor all past presidents or is it still just a combination of Washington and Lincoln’s birthdays?

Yes, I came in to work today.  Judging by the line at Starbucks, I’m the only one working today too.

Lily has another little cold – runny nose and a cough.  I think she’s feeling ok, but she was a bit restless most of the night and she was up by 6:30.

Cold here this morning.  Most of the area hit freezing again last night.  I covered the citrus trees and put a couple of hot lamps under my sea grapes.  Freezing is supposed to be good for the grass – kills off some of the weeds.  The bird bath wasn’t frozen this morning so I don’t know how cold we got.

Nice and toasty in the office today.  I guess with it being a holiday, the “powers that be” aren’t here to monitor the thermostat settings.  Someone has the heat cranked up to 78!

Oh, Lily…

We ate lunch out this afternoon.  In the middle of eating, Lily insisted she had to go to the potty.  Diane took her to the little girls room and they returned after 5 or 6 minutes.  Seems Lily wasn’t able to complete her end of the bargain on the trip which explained the look on her mother’s face.

A minute or two later…”I’ve got to go potty”.  This time, I volunteered.  Kind of with a “you aren’t going to pull this with me” attitude.

We went into the stall and I laid a “paper shield” for her to sit on.  Lily says, “That’s not how Mommy does it.  She puts it like this”.  I said that was “OK, my way works just the same”.

I pulled her britches off completely and hung her pants on the hook on the stall door.  Lily says, “That’s not how Mommy does it.  She leaves my pants on.”  Again, I said that was “ok”.

So Lily is sitting there, straining and pushing, and I told her…”You don’t have to force it, just take your time”.

Lily says, “That’s not what Mommy says.  She says ‘Hurry up, my food is getting cold’!”

Finally

I’m so glad it’s Friday.  It’s been one of those weeks.

You’ll be happy to know that the shipping debacle that has taken two weeks is fixed and the customer is happy.  Easily the worst shipping problem I’ve ever had.

Getting cold outside tonight.  Everyone is preparing for a freeze.  Guess I’d better get home in time to cover some plants.  I have four citrus trees that I’d like to keep warm.  The clouds have cleared and the temperature is starting to drop.  I’ve heard predictions as low as 27…Brandon is down in a hole so we tend to get a degree or two colder.

It’s gonna get cold…

I have two ways that let me know how cold it will be…

One, I watch the Weather Channel – probably too much.

And secondly, I watch the hourly fluctuations in orange juice prices on the market.  Seems the market guys are expecting a cold one Friday night because prices are up…way up.

Vinnie’s Head

Got my haircut this afternoon…I know – sorry – it wasn’t on the calendar.

I went to (as Lily calls it) Fabulous Sam’s.   She’s really confused because not only is it just Fantastic Sam’s – but she thinks it’s the same as the Sam’s Club we shop at.  So she thinks I get my haircut and then go buy paper towels, tea bags and dog food.

Anyways – Fabulous Sam’s had free hair shampooing.  I usually spend the rest of the day covered in hair, so I figured, “why not?”

Now I know “why not”…it’s creepy having someone wash your hair for you!  I kind of like the fresh feeling of clean hair in the middle of the afternoon – but it’s just plain weird having someone wash your hair for you.  Yuck.

I’m here…

My apologies to regular Vlog readers – I’ve been swamped the last several days and blogging has had to be a casualty.  Work has been crazy – mostly dealing with the same darn shipment.  I’m the guy in the middle and I’m caught between a trucker and a warehouse who have decided to hate each other.  This shipment has turned into an unprecedented event the last two weeks – and it’s a shipment I’ve done EVERY WEEK for the last year without a single problem.  But this time – these two guys have decided to act like 3rd graders on a playground – AAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH.

Anyhow, nice weather this morning – mid 60’s, nice breeze out of the west.  We ended up with almost 3/4 in. of rain yesterday – pretty nice for this time of year considering this is the dry season.  The oak trees are full of pollen (Diane’s nose is proof) and my flowers in the garden are starting to bloom.  Windows are open and the AC is off after running for the last day or so.

I’m getting a bit irritated at the Anna Nicole story.  I’m willing to bet that the 63% that want to pull out of Iraq are the ones setting their Tivo’s for Anna updates.  I can’t believe the news media is covering this the way they are – it’s sickening.

Happy Valentine’s Day.  It’s also our beagle Weezy’s birthday.  I think she’s 11 or 12 today, I can’t remember.  I’ll pickup a can of special dogfood for her tonight.  Did you sent someone flowers?  Are you receiving flowers?  I hope so!

It sure is Monday

In case you didn’t have a calendar handy, the weather this morning will sure remind you it’s Monday.  Rainy and cool.  Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got a lot of new plants in the garden that are loving the rain.

We worked Lily’s little butt off this weekend in the yard.  That child was covered in dirt from one end to the other…and from Saturday morning until late Sunday afternoon.  We planted and pulled weeds until we couldn’t stand it anymore.  The spring garden is taking shape – probably plant some seeds in the next week or two.

Also got a good jump on Lily’s sandbox.  Lot’s of back breaking digging and hauling dirt.  It’s only 6′ x 6′ and I figured I’d make it about 8″ deep.  My numbers show I need 2500lbs of sand.

Lily had a babysitter last night while Diane and I went out to dinner.  Lily loves Ms. Sarah and barely even said good bye to us when we left.  For an hour after we got home all we heard was, “Where’d Ms. Sarah go?”  ,  “When is Ms. Sarah coming back?”

Have a nice Monday.

(I don’t know who all is coming to this Vlog – the web stats I get show 53 people subscribing to my daily feed!  Fifty three?!  Come on – you all must have something better to do than read my rants!)

Overheard at the store…

I over heard this sentence at the grocery store this morning.

“I’m katzenjammered like you wouldn’t believe”

I spent a minute or two trying to figure out what I heard and finally gave up.  My interest got the better of me and I searched for a couple of things until I found the spelling you see above.

Look it up.

Sunday

It’s a gorgeous Sunday morning.  Not a cloud in the sky, big, bright sun coming up.  A bit colder this morning than the last couple of mornings.  As I sit here, the heat just came on!  Looks like it got down to 41 last night!

Lily got up at 7am this morning and has played quietly since.  She even let the dog out and fed her!

Spent the entire day in the yard yesterday.  Got some rose bushes planted, readied the garden for the spring planting and even got a jump on Lily’s sandbox.  If my hands and back didn’t ache so much, I might say I’d finish the sandbox today, but I’m just not sure.

Lily has a babysitter this afternoon while Diane and I go to dinner.  Also thinking about a trip to get strawberries!

No football today.  I think the ProBowl was last night, so the season is officially over.  I won the office football pool this year and I won the office Fantasy League.

Little Diva

Well, I’ve got a happy little strut going on today.

At art class today, Lily was “recognized” by someone.  Seems Lily’s photo is hanging on the wall at the studio where we had her last pictures taken.  (Her Valentine’s Day picture)  Lily’s first modeling job!

And her first groupie!

I’ll swing by and take a picture of the picture (?)

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood…

I’ve decided to spend a few minutes every morning taking the time to handle junk mail.  I’m returning mail, trying to remove my name from lists etc…for all the junk I get at home and at work.

No word on Lily’s application for preschool.  Might not find out until late next week or later.

Lily had a bit of a sniffle as she went to bed Tuesday night.  She didn’t sleep good and was weezing most of the night.  All signs of a cold were gone, however, by the time she got up yesterday and even this morning seems fine…whew! Dodged one.  That means she can go to art class today!

Cold again last night.  Someone didn’t set the heat and it got down to 63 in the house (we usually keep it at 67 or 68 at night).  That’s a fine temperature to play outside in, but not to sleep in.  I froze most of the night.

I’m having a good kareoke voice today.  I don’t know if it’s the coffee, or if my ears are stuffy but I sound great.  Maybe I’m watching too much American Idol.

Continental

Seems my NOT SAFE TO VISIT warnings are working.  Continental has another Tampa special this week, marking at least the 4th time this year such a special has been offered!

Checked out another preschool for Lily this morning…we might have a winner!

Cold again this morning…41 degrees.  Once again, my bed was full of people and animals wanting warmth.  Apparently I’m the only one smart enough to go to bed with a few extra blankets.  By 4am, the house is getting cold and everyone is my best friend.  And poor Skeeter – she wishes she was a lap dog.  But at 80lbs, when she jumps on the bed she shakes everything and is promptly kicked off the bed.

The sun is out today for the first time in several days.  Bright blue skies and warming up to about 66.  Looks like nice weather for the next several days.  No wait…I didn’t say that.

Tuesday will be a delayed opening for everyone in Florida

Yes, I’m complaining about the cold.  It’s in the 50’s right now and expected to be in the forties tonight.  It’s windy and spitting rain.  I had my space heater on in my office this afternoon and got my office up to a nice, balmy 78 degrees!  I don’t do well in the cold.  I don’t like to talk about the cold, I don’t like to pretend about the cold and I don’t like to visit the cold.  If I didn’t have a customer in it, I wouldn’t even talk to people who were in the cold.  And my definition of cold starts somewhere in the low 60’s.  I sleep with four heavy blankets and I’m not even going to begin to tell you what the heat is set at.

We are looking at preschools for Lily.  Went to another one tonight and after an hour of Open House, Lily whined, “I don’t want to go home”…that’s a good sign!

So I had a UPS package that I sent last Thursday.  It was going within the state, should have delivered Friday.  It missed the delivery Friday because it went to Atlanta.  It made stops in Jacksonville, St. Louis and Jacksonville before it finally delivered this afternoon 112 miles from my office.  I’m kind of laughing on the inside because I know UPS lost money on that one!

I have an arch enemy in my building.  This person likes to take my parking spot.  I hope he/she didn’t see me mistakenly try to get into their car this afternoon.  I’m standing there pushing the key fob trying to unlock my car wondering 1) why isn’t my fob working? and 2) who put a McDonald’s bag in my car?

I love the smell of Monday

Darn it’s cold again.  Not much sun out, 45 over night and 60 something today.  Yuck…is it March yet?

Not too bad of a SuperBowl last night.  Seems as much media time is being spent on the wrap up as was spent on the pre-game hype.  Which ad was best? Who watched? Blah, blah, blah…

Not too much on the schedule this week.  I’ll meet Diane and Lily for lunch this afternoon.  That’s about all.

I’ll have to tell you about my UPS package later….

What are you doing today?

Cool day today – mid 60’s and cloudy.

We ran downtown for a little shopping.  I don’t mind shopping – as long as it’s not the mall.

Lily was good – she got to pick something out from the toy store.

We stopped for a sandwich as we got back into Brandon.

Lily’s napping now.  I need to do some things outside, but it’s kind of cool out.  Nothing on TV unless you want to watch the local weather guy show the radar of yesterday’s tornado over and over and over again.  One guy goes on and on about how he was on the phone with the National Weather Service when he spotted a tornado on the radar and brought it to their attention.  Thanks to him, they issued a second warning.  He’s so full of himself.
