Friday!!!

Last Friday in April!!  It’s been a busy couple of weeks  for us – the month of April has been a doozie.

Anyways – I hope to have the webpage updated Monday, so just a few more days of Vlog only!  As a bonus to you regular Vlog visitors, here are a few pics…

Looks like Wednesday, smells like Wednesday…must be…

D-Rays beat the Yanks 6-4 last night.  Two good things about that…First of all, the Rays are no longer in last place in their division.  And secondly, the Yankees are!!!

TMZ is reporting that Rosie will announce she’s leaving The View today.  Why can’t she announce something good…like she’s leaving the planet?  I’m just tired of listening to her run her mouth.   I’m also a firm believer in “if you don’t have anything nice to say about someone, don’t say it” and I don’t think she believes in that.

We mowed the yard yesterday and played in the hottub.  The pool is still a bit chilly – only 78 degrees.  My tolerance is about 84 degrees.  I also picked 5 HUGE heads of brocolli from the garden.  This is easily my best garden ever.  The corn is as high as an elephant’s eye (I heard that one from my grandmother!) The brocolli has been amazing – 12 monster sized heads so far.  The cucumbers are my next problem – I’m predicting a bumper crop.  We’ve been eating spinach salads almost every night.

Let’s see….I’ve got coconut, grape, orange and pineapple to ship today.  Babysitting those will be my project for the next three days.  I also have a load of Passionfruit arriving into port so I have to get the customs documents for that done.  Other than that, I should be able to get home today early enough to play Hungry Hippos with Lily.  She wanted me to play with her at 7am, but I convinced her to wait until later.

Miscellaneous

I’m not a fan of poets.  Maya Angelou just freaks me out.  I didn’t realize she was in the movie Roots, however.

I begin each day going through the mail and faxing or calling to get removed from junk mail lists.  It just got to the point where the mail was piling up with garbage.  Staples sends me a two inch thick catalog four times a year!  Don’t get me wrong – I love office supplies.  I even love office supply catalogs.  But it’s just ridiculous.  And don’t get me started on the mortgage and credit card offers.  I think I’ve got those slowed down to a trickle now.

Don’t know what happened to my UPS guy.  Denis hasn’t been seen for two weeks now.  He’s been replaced by Robert.

Well, it’s 10:30am and I haven’t sold anything yet today.  I guess I’d better get to work.  Lily has art class this afternoon and she’s going solo – no Mommy today!  Got to mow the yard today.

Forgive me Father, for I have watched TV…

Well – I have a confession to make.

My building was occupied by the local cable company just prior to my moving in.  They still have a few offices upstairs, but for the most part they’ve moved into a neighboring building.

One day, I was moving some furniture around and realized there was a cable outlet on the wall.  I had tolerated a little 5 inch B&W TV in my office for years and I figured it wouldn’t hurt to see what would happen if I hooked up a TV to the cable outlet.

Well, lo and behold – the entire building is wired for cable.  So I get cable in my office.  I usually keep FOX News on except for an occassional trip over to TVLand when Leave It To Beaver is on.

Nowadays I also stop on Birth Stories on Discovery Health – but I strongly suggest not watching too much of that – it’ll just mess you up.

Yes, I’m here

Well, the weekend is over.  I know.  I’m bummed too.

But we had an absolutely wonderful weekend.  Lily had a wonderful birthday at Disney – complete with Princesses, fireworks and all of her favorite Disney things.  We had a great hotel room and we sat outside on our porch and watched the fireworks every night, which we told Lily were just for her.

We ended our weekend with a ride on Thomas the Train with my grandparents – Lily’s greatgrandparents – in Tavares followed by MORE cake and icecream at Grandma’s.

I’ve got piles of paper on my desk – inbound, outbound, 4 days worth of mail, 5 days worth of incoming faxes.  I’ve been here for a half hour and I already miss Diane and Lily.

Got to try and mow the yard today.  Diane and Lily are going to the grocery store.  I’ll put some pictures (and maybe some video)  up soon!

Still not much progress on the webpage.  Sorry.

good afternoon…

Well, we spent an hour or so at the pool, had lunch and got Lily a “hair wrap”…(picture to come later).

Lily is taking a good nap, and we are getting ready for the Magic Kingdom this afternoon.

Lily has been telling everyone it’s her birthday and not only asks them to sing to her, she comes back later and tells these complete strangers that if they want to, they can sing again!

Happy Birthday Lily!!

Lily began her day with a Happy Birthday wakeup call from none other than Goofy himself! We had breakfast and the whole restaurant sang Happy Birthday to her.

Lily is on cloud three today. She’s telling everyone it’s her birthday and she is so personable. She’s having whole conversations with everyone who says anything to her.

We are spending the morning at the pool and going to the Magic Kingdom for a special birthday dinner tonight.

I know, you want pictures…I’ll have some up early afternoon while Lily recharges at nap time.

Oh, did I mention how perfect the weather is? 77 deg. and not a cloud in the sky!

Truck

Ok, my truck made it to Miami this morning for his second pickup of 18 drums of Passionfruit.  However, because of the poor English he spoke, he left without my product because he was asking for 8 drums and the warehouse only had an order for 18.

Which begs the question:  Wouldn’t you call the company (me) that sent you there before you packed up and went home?

We got it straightened out and he got back on the road to the port carrying 40 drums of Lime Juice and 18 drums of Passionfruit Juice.

The problem currently at hand is the company receiving this truck has called wanting to know “who are these 32 drums for?”.  Now, for those of you reading along, you know there shouldn’t be just 32 drums of anything.

How hard can this be?  I’m not being paid enough for this.

Mid week

Sure is a screwed up story out of Virginia.  The news this morning reports this lunatic wore sunglasses all the time, even indoors.  That would have been the only clue I needed – I hate when people do that.  Sunglasses, indoors…all the time.  There are a couple of singers who do that – Ronnie Milsap, Ray Charles…whackos.

Speaking of whackos… Some idiot threw a bunch of food out of his car window at an intersection I go through on my way to work.  The seagulls were everywhere.  How do they avoid getting hit by cars?  They were diving in and out with the cycling of the lights and dodging 50 mph traffic.  It looked like a video game or something.

Actually, one seagull did get hit but he was wearing dark sunglasses.

We had a delivery at the house this morning so I came in a little late.  Lily stood with me outside while the delivery guy unloaded the stuff into our garage.  After a minute, Lily asked me, “Can I talk to him?”  I said she could.  And she said, “Good, because I need to tell him which Princess I am today.  Sometimes I’m Ariel and sometimes I’m Cinderella….” She didn’t shut up for 15 minutes.

State Senate OKs free beer

I, for one, don’t really have Wisconsin on the top of my list of states I’d like to visit.  South Dakota…yes.  Arizona…yes.  Hawaii…yes.   However, after this story, I’m happy to report Wisconsin has moved up ahead of Idaho on my list.

The story continues…

Ok, so this trucker shows up to pick up a load of stuff that HAS to be in Miami by 7am tomorrow. The warehouse is running behind so they tell him he’ll have to wait a hour. Well, as per my prevoius entry, the trucker raises hell. Apparently he’s more important than any other truck waiting. And in the course of his tirade throws out my name – like he’s raising a fuss at my direction. So I get the angry call from the warehouse and smooth things over. In the meantime, the trucker decides to leave his trailer and go get some lunch. Get this…he illegally parks his rig and it gets towed while he’s gone! He didn’t park it on warehouse property! So maybe what comes around goes around. I had to find another truck in a pinch and the guy who blew his top earlier loses a job hauling my stuff to Miami and instead has to go get his rig out of the impound lot.

Hurry up and wait

Wow, it’s sure been one of those days. I guess I just don’t understand why, in the course of just getting our jobs done, some people think the only way to get from point A to point B is to be a jerk about things. And all I’m doing is moving drums of juice around the world. It’s not like it’s life or death here. And, as is usually the case, it’s trucker. But even if it’s not juice – do we really have to be nasty to get things done? I know peope who brag about “eating someone’s lunch” or “ripping so and so a new one” What happened to “you catch more bees with honey”

Gotta love Mondays

Got here late this morning.  That has its pluses and minuses… On the up side, no line at Starbucks – the early rush is gone and I’m in and out in no time at all.  On the down side, Babe-a-licious has my parking space.  The only thing I hate more than looking out there and seeing her car is looking out there at the lunch hour and seeing her car.  She sits in her car from 1pm-2pm, puts up shades on all the windows, turns on the car and AC and watches a little TV on her dash.  Just annoys me to no end.

Caught Lily singing a new “I love you” song that she made up this morning.  She was singing it to herself in the mirror.

Kind of nice here today.  Mid 70’s and breezy.  Nice to be able to open the house up and really move some air through the house.  We got a third of an inch of rain yesterday and it was all over by 11am.  Turned nice outside by lunch time.  This cool weather will knock the pool temp back down – it had started warming up a little.  Summer isn’t too far off.

April is National Poetry Month

Late in the morning, I’m trying to sell juice.

But my desk chair is wobbly and has a screw loose.

I can’t sit straight and I can’t really think.

My coffee is getting cold and I want a warm drink.

The phone won’t stop ringin’.

There’s a song in my head I’m singin’.

So many things wrong, what should I do?

I really just need something to tighten that screw.

Yawn…

Bummer – first day this week I didn’t get my parking spot.  No – I  got in here a few minutes later so I could drop something off for Diane and I played with Lily and her Thomas the Train for 5 minutes at her request.  I guess a parking space isn’t that important.  What?  Are you kidding me?  It sets the whole tone of the day!

I was told this morning that I look like Martin Short.  I don’t know if they were being funny (not likely, she was as short as I) or if I really do look like him.  And this isn’t the first time I’ve been told that either.  It’s happened before.

And I got to thinking…I just might not be as good looking as I thought.  I’ve never thought of Martin Short as being in the running for Sexiest Man Alive.    So I’m a bit perplexed by this lady’s comment.  I should have said, “Oh really?  Well, you kind of look like Betty White.  Naay…I’ve seen Betty White in her prime – she was kind of hot.  Not a good example.  I should have picked someone like Rhea Perlman or Bea Arthur.

The whole thing has me thinking – if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it.  And if you aren’t sure it’s nice, don’t say it.  Even if you aren’t saying it directly to the person, but, say, to someone else – don’t say it…it’ll get back to them.  Like poor Martin Short.  Somewhere he’s going to be in line at a Starbucks and someone is going to tell him, “Hey, you’re never going to believe who so-and-so said you look like”.

Hump Day

The rain has stopped and the sun is out.  We got an inch of much needed rain.  The garden will love that.

We ate fresh broccoli and spinach from the garden last night.  I even picked a handful of fresh herbs for our chicken dinner.  Lily insisted on helping me pick in the garden last night before dinner….in the rain…in her rain slicker and umbrella her grandmother bought her.  After I had picked what we needed, Lily stayed outside in the rain for another ten minutes and walked around twirling her umbrella.

I guess that leaves just a .001% chance that I’m the father of Anna Nicole’s baby.   Amazing how much news time has been dedicated to that garbage.  Last night, all I could find on TV was coverage of Anna Nicole or Imus.  Like there isn’t anything else going on in the world.

Two days in a row and I’ve beat “Babe-a-licous” to the most coveted parking spot in the lot.  I got it yesterday when it rained all day too.

My Blog stats are way up this week thanks to actually being voted Blog Of The Minute by a website this weekend.  I have no idea why anyone would come to this page regularly.  I average 50 or so visitors a day.  That number is up to 90 now.  Don’t ya’ll have anything better to do?

Rainy Tuesday

You certainly won’t get any complaints from me on the weather today.  Slow drizzle almost all day now.  And we sure need it.  Not sure it’s amounted to anything yet, but every little drop helps.

Busy week so far.  As usual, there just doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day.  My office is a disaster – I really need to get some things cleaned up around here – I haven’t filed anything since January!  I’ve ‘piled’ instead.

Lily’s birthday is next week.  My cousin just had a baby last week.  Lots of April birthdays in my family.  I think our official due date is still August 7th.  I’ve heard the 7th and I’ve heard the 13th.  But a lot can happen between now and then.  Poor Diane – it’s going to be a long hot summer to be pregnant!

Went home for lunch today.  Weezy reached up to the dining table and stole Diane’s sandwich…bad beagle.   She did it to me twice last week and scored a turkey sandwich both times.

Sorry about the webpage.  I’ll have it back up soon.

Happy Easter

First of all – sorry about the webpage.  My main page isn’t going to have updates for a couple of days.  My router has died and my files are on my laptop.  I’m working on it and I hope to have the laptop back up in a couple of days.  In the meantime, my Vlog will have to suffice.

Garden is coming along nicely…

garden040707.jpg  Lily loves the corn.  We’ve had to plant more spinach because she eats it as fast as the new leaves pop off.  Brocolli is next – big full heads just a week or so from being ripe.

Lily had a busy day yesterday.  We left early yesterday morning to go see a theater production of Clifford the Big Red Dog.  She napped on the way back towards home, and we stopped for a birthday party she had been invited to.  We got home about 5pm.

Beautiful day out today – low 70’s, not a cloud in the sky.  Time to go out and enjoy the day!

Good Friday to ya’

Not much work going on today.  Just a few things that have been easily managed by cellphone and email.

I watched Lily this morning while Diane got her hair done.  We cleaned the house and did some organizing in the garage.  She went down for her nap, and when she got up, mom walked in.

Sorry about the lack of updates this week.  Not only has it been an especially busy week, but I’ve had some computer issues that will affect my updates just a bit.  Give me a couple of days and I’ll figure out how to get things back on track.

Going to see Clifford the Big Red Dog tomorrow and then Lily has a birthday party to go to.  So Saturday is all about Lily…but then again – what day isn’t?!

Thanks for all the positive comments about Lily’s swimming videos.  Glad you like those!  I hope to update her video archives soon too.

You mean you can’t do that?  So I suppose straping them to the roof of the car won’t work either?  Funny how they keep you from doing things like this, yet they let people feed their kids all the junk food they want while and watch TV all the time.  Now really, which one is worse for the kid?

Drug companies

I know, I’m not supposed to mouth off about drug companies.   But…this one really got me going this morning.

It was on the Today Show, and the story was on the increasing cost of child vaccinations.

This guy from Merck said….

“The price of vaccinations have been increased to reflect the value to the consumer of the diseases they prevent”.   Gotta love it.

Sorry…I’m also mad because for the first time in many years, I have to pay for Diane’s Lubriderm habit and that stuff ain’t cheap.

It’s Sunday!

We’ve spent almost the entire day in the 84 degree pool.  Lily’s swimming is astounding.  After just a few hours, she was swimming the length of the pool and coming up for air along the way.   She’s skipped her nap both days this weekend and now she’s water logged and ready for bed.  I think we are all a bit worn out this weekend.
