Let’s get ready to rumble

We are watching the Democratic debate tonight.  For a while anyways.  There’s nothing on TV anyways.

Lily was asleep quickly tonight on account of her skipping her nap.  She was gone after about 6 minutes of reading.  She had a busy day – trip to the mall, ballet.  I picked up her Progress Report at school today.  She is your typical, average student in all areas.  All areas EXCEPT conduct where she is ABOVE AVERAGE!!  That’s my girl!

01-31-2008

The year is 1/12th of the way gone.  I’m not really one to lament “how fast time flies”.  It’s never felt as if it were flying to me.  It seems like just yesterday that it was, well…. yesterday!

Lily and I built a Lego wall around Leo this morning before breakfast.  I don’t know who enjoyed it more – me, Lily or Leo!  Leo was acting like a caged monster and he kept tearing down our wall.  Lily was doing emergency repairs while I kept building.

Before I left for work, Lily came to me and asked me to tickle her because she had the hiccups.  “Please tickle me!”  I obliged.  It was hilarious, she was giggling and hiccuping and screaming, “Thank you!!  Don’t stop!”

We took the two of them to get pictures yesterday.  Don’t worry – you’ll get one.  I know who comes to the web page and the blog.  You’ll get one.

I get to brag about the weather some more.  It’s 60 and sunny this morning.  Windows open, birds singing.  It’s been a fairly mild winter in Florida.  Just one hard freeze, which, honestly, did the yard some good.  I’m starting to worry about my bougainvilla.  They aren’t looking to hot.

Still Wednesday

I’m having a “big boy” day.  All serious stuff.  Stuff that seems like it’s there just to remind you that you are an adult.  Nothing bad, just “big boy”.   Kind of makes you want to go home and play with the kids.

Some clouds have moved in this afternoon.  Still cool outside, but cloudy.

I got to Lily’s school early today to pick her up.  I didn’t rush right in, but instead watched her eat her lunch from inside.  She’s a real hoot.  I don’t know what she was saying to those around her but she was quite excited about something in her lunch bag.  The little girl next to her didn’t seem to care.  But Lily was happy.  I think it was the cup of blueberries and raspberries I packed for her.

I haven’t had a chance to see what’s going on in the news today.  Sounds like Giuliania and Edwards are out.  Two down, three to go.  Sorry, I know Rule #88 is “No Politics”, but I’m getting sucked into this one for some reason.  I’m actually watching debates.  What’s wrong with me?

Hump Day

Lily is back to school after missing two days.  It’s been a week since she was there and everyone was excited to hear about her trip.  I think she’s taking a bunch of her Crayola stuff from the factory we went to for show and tell on Friday.

Lily has helped adopt a stray cat at my office.  This has been going on for several months now – “Tigger” comes by first thing every morning now and I feed him.  Lily picks out the food for me to bring at the grocery store and she has some method as to which can he gets which day.  I don’t know what the pattern is – I just do what I’m told and report back to her whether or not Tigger liked it.   Lily didn’t grocery shop with me yesterday, so she told me to pick out whatever I wanted and she’d go through it later.  This morning, she was looking at the cans I had picked out and found the one she wanted Tigger to have today.  She asked me what was in it and I told her it was “tuna and shrimp”.  She thought for a second and said, “Dadda, you eat tuna and shrimp too!”  I said yes, yes I do.  Then she asked, “Dadda, is there anything else you eat that cats eat?”

Well, Florida has voted.  Sounds as if Goiliani is dropping out today.  I voted yesterday and was chastised by some 80 year old volunteer because first, I couldn’t remember what precinct I was (830 or 832) and second, I didn’t bring my voter ID card.  Now, in my defense, Ms. Smith, (if that is your real name) – it’s not my fault that the Elections Office has decided to move a second precinct into your church to vote.  I’ve been coming here for years.  I know you have an alphabetical listing of every registered voter – you’ve got a 50/50 shot – pick a list.  I also happen to know that a driver’s license or photo ID is all you need to vote.  I’m fairly certain that when I’ve produced just my voter ID card, you’ve asked for a photo ID.  Let’s just save the step – use your list and give me my ballot.  Fine, use the other list.

It feels like spring this morning.  Sixty degrees.  We sat at breakfast with the window open and watched the sunrise.  The birds are out like crazy – something I didn’t even realize I had missed while traveling this weekend.  No birds.  I guess they’ve all flown south for the winter.  Now, my question is – why don’t they just stay?  Anyways, I have the windows and my big door open this morning at the office too.

I have to so Tigger can come and go.

Tuesday

I’ve done my civic duty and voted.  For whom?  I won’t bore you.  I don’t expect there is a more boring thing to read about than how one votes.  It’s not like there is a right or wrong choice.  I might as well discuss what I had for lunch – it’s just as entertaining.

Aroastica chicken with a raspberry honey dressing on a fresh ciabatta roll.

See, wasn’t that exciting?

I’m back to work today after a couple of days on the road.  It’s really something – traveling to the northeast.  It’s just a different way of life.  In the south, if you happen to make eye contact with someone, you at least acknowledge them with a nod or even a “how are you?”.  In the northeast, no one talks to you.  There is no cordial conversation even to kill the time you have to share an elevator with a stranger.  I was “left hanging” so many times, even I quit looking at other people.  It’s a very unfriendly place to be.  Unless you work for the airport.  The little helper bees at the airport in NJ were as nice as Mr. Rogers.  They were the only ones who would talk to you.  And smile.

Don’t even get me started on the driving.  Idiots – all of them.  And it wasn’t like it was old people.  We were almost taken out by a young guy in too much of a hurry to look in his mirrors.  How we missed that tangle-up, I have no idea.  We saw a semi decide he was in the wrong exit lane.  He headed to the left while another idiot was trying to pass him on the left to get over INTO the turn lane.   I started thinking I was the only one who knew where he was going.

And speaking of knowing where you are going:  GPS – amazing.  Everyone should have one.  I brought mine from home and it never led me wrong.  Door to door, correctly, everytime.  I needed a drug store – found it.  Target – found it.  Starbucks – never got it, but found it.

Other than that, not a bad trip.  I like that the hotel front desk had fresh cookies every night.  The last night – no cookies.

I like that we went through rental return, baggage check and security in 15 minutes flat.  We were flyin’.  Same thing in Tampa.  Our plane landed at 4:35 and we had our bag and were in the car by 4:45.  Ten minutes!  Have you ever heard of such a thing?

One more…

Sunday, while in PA, Lily was going to go outside.  The temperatures rarely got over 30 degrees, so it was unlike anything Lily had ever seen before.  She got all bundled up in everything we brought for her, but even that was insufficient for the sub freezing temps.  She borrowed some items – a scarf, some gloves and a hat – to keep warm.  Someone handed her a pair of ear muffs which Lily took a hold of and asked, “Why do I need these?  It isn’t loud outside.”

Home, Sweet Home

There is something about traveling that truly makes you appreciate home.  Don’t get me wrong, we had a nice trip.  But it sure feels good to be home.

Both kids were very, very good on the plane.  In fact, only now are we seeing any fussiness.  Lily went to slept quickly.  Leo might be having some ear popping going on still.  I am.  In fact, I’m practically deaf right now.  We didn’t have a problem into Newark, but the arrival into Tampa has my ears all clogged up.

There were many part about our trip I’d like to tell you about.  Some I won’t mention.  Others will come to me as the days wear on.

The dogs were happy to see us.  And Lily was happy to be back in her own bed.  As I’m sure I’ll be in a very short while.

Just in case you were checking the calendar – I went to the post office and got my passport Jan 17th.  Eleven days ago.  My new passport arrived in the mail today.  So much for the idea that they’re backed up.  Who’d have thought the government could do anything in 11 days.

I don’t want to even think about my week coming up.  I’ve got so many things going on and only four days of the week to do it in.  We vote tomorrow in Florida.  If you are a democrat, you don’t count.

So, I’m done for the night.  More tomorrow.

All aboard

We are in Newark, minutes from boarding. We flew thru the rental return, ticketing and security. In fact, we were sitting down for lunch next to our gate less than thirty minutes after pulling into the Hertz driveway.
Lily napped most of the way to the airport and Leo has just now fallen asleep. We should be on board in a few minutes.

Ok, that’s it…

Darn, I’ve had all kinds of good stuff banned by the censor today.  Good stuff.

I took Lily to ballet this afternoon.  She’s a great little ballerina, although, her plies need some work.   She’s an excellent student – very attentive.

Leo is quite the dude these days it seems.  He’s been promoted to sitting in the stroller and not in the baby carrier.  Over the last 48 hours, he’s really started finding his voice.  He’s noisy and talkative unlike ever before.  Babble, babble, babble.  And he’s loud!  I’ve also noticed recently that he’ll object when you stop doing something he likes, or take something he wants.  He’ll whine if you leave the room and light up when someone new comes in.

Lily and I also got fresh haircuts today together at Fantastic Sams.  She liked that we were both sitting next to each other with matching gowns on.

Well, I’m a watch wearer again.  I’d given up wearing a watch the last several year after my nice watch died and couldn’t be fixed.  I fell into the group that came to rely on the cell phone for time.  I got to thinking and decided to join those who care what time it is.  I put it on Saturday and I’ve worn it non stop since, except for bed time.  I’m hoping to justify a nice watch come summertime.

Wel, it’s 7:15… time to put some kids to bed!

Chicken foot Sammy?  Chicken foot Sammy.

Foggy this morning.  My hair is not going to do well in this.

I guess I ended up not blogging at all yesterday.  No real reason – just busy and not in front of the computer.  Sorry.

I nearly splashed a kid at the bus stop this morning.  I hit the soft spot on the shoulder and made a HUGE splash of mud and water.  HUGE!    I knew it was close so I hopped out to make sure I had missed him – and I had.  Whew!  I’m not having a good week driving through the neighborhood – first he guy in the wheel chair and now the kid at the bus stop.  Somebody stop me before I hurt someone!!!

Here’s a quick pic that means something to someone who is out $25…  (From Consumer Reports)

7:33PM, Tuesday, January 22, 2008

I was stung by a wasp this afternoon on the side of my head while driving 30 mph.  I swear, I honestly thought I had been shot.  I seriously slowed the car down and desperatly felt for any sign of blood.  Darn that hurt.

I’ve made it to 7:30pm.  That means dinner is done (thanks Diane for doing the dishes!), both kids are bathed and off to bed.  I’ve put together Lily’s new night light and read a couple of chapters of Stuart Little.  Diane has gone upstairs for her share of the routine that is putting Lily to bed.  It takes a half hour, but, honestly, it isn’t that bad.  I like sitting with her and discussing her day, finding out what her favorite part was and reading to her.  It’s easily my favorite part of the day.

If I get downstairs by 7:30, I can flip on Jeopardy.  No luck tonight – I guess Alex is still out because of his heart attack.  That’s fine – a local channel has Seinfeld.

Leo is still snotty – maybe he’s feeling better.  It’s hard when they’re sick.  I swear, I’d take that cold twice it’s power and for two weeks longer if I could just take it for him.  I hope he sleeps better, but there’s something about going to bed that makes a cold more powerful.  He didn’t really care to play outside with me and Lily tonight  (we went out to play while Momma did the dishes).  And he last all of five minutes in the bath.  He’s resting comfortably now – hopefully for several hours.

Ain’t I purdy?

You know, sometimes I wake up and I feel like I’m living an episode of Seinfeld.  Most of the time.  Today, however, my life has gone cable and I’m clearly living in “What Not To Wear”.

Leo had a rough night.  This cold is really socking it to him.  He was up constantly once we put him down.  Nine, 10:30  11:30…oh, and don’t even get me started on his fussing at 12:45am.  He and Lily have the same cough, but Leo has more congestion.  Poor little guy.

It’s a gorgeous morning here.  Low 60’s.  Not a cloud in the sky.

Noon update

Diane is at the dentist, therefore, Daddy is in charge at home.  We made lunch – peanut butter and jelly.  Lily made her own sandwich – messy, but, overall, I thought she did an excellent job.  I asked her if she wanted it cut and she said she did, but that she wanted to cut it.  I got a knife and helped her make two horizontal cuts across the bread.  I asked her if she wanted anymore cuts and she said, “No, I can only eat three pieces.”   Just when you think she’s a genius…

I’ve undercovered one of Diane’s closely held secrets.  I suppose it’s like finding out she has a sixth toe or something.  Anyways, truth be told – she apparently has a very serious hair condition.  There is a new bottle of shampoo in the shower this morning that says “Damage Therapy” and something about “Restructering” and “Repairs damage.”  I don’t know how serious it is, or if she can claim disability or anything.  But if any part of your body needs “Damage Therapy”, it must be bad.   I’m looking online for some support groups.  We might even have a fund raiser.   I found a group selling a calendar with photos of victims of this terrible plight.   I might submit a photo of Diane for Mrs. May.

On second thought, I’d better not.

Are you ready for some football?

It hardly seems fair does it?  I actually think I feel bad that I’m sitting in my 70 degree house, warm fire in the fireplace and those idiots are running around a football field in GreenBay in sub zero temps for my amusement.  Ok, I don’t feel that bad.  Kind of funny that we are almost paralyzed by the cold here and it’s only in the 40’s.

Leo is a bit restless tonight.  He went down at 7:30 but he’s been up twice since.  Lily went down relatively easily tonight.  Her cough isn’t as bad as last night.  Leo and I also have “the cough” that I’m sure Lily brought home from school.  Diane is the only one who isn’t coughing.

I guess I’m not sure what is going on tomorrow.  It’s a holiday so maybe it’ll make for a quiet day.  Banks and post office closed.   Honestly, I’ve got plenty of work I need to do but I need the bank and the post office to get it done.   It’s garbage day and I think they are running.  I’ve got a few things to do around here and Diane has a dentist appointment just before noon.   So maybe we’ll plan on being around the house tomorrow.

Ok, I’m really out of things to tell you.  It’s 9:30 and we are about ready for bed.  I suppose Diane is right, if I didn’t tell you nearly every detail of our day, I’d hear from more people.

Good night!

The Red Dot

Typical Sunday around here.  Except for the cold.  Barely in the 60’s today.  We’re all bundled up in jackets.  I’ve even started up the fireplace.  Low 40’s tonight.  The front gave us an inch of rain – always welcome this time of year.

Lily and I did the grocery shopping while Diane cleaned the house.  After lunch we headed to our favorite produce mart out east for strawberries and a sundae.  We also scored some fried peanuts, and some boiled peanuts.  Perfect snacks for the football games.

Leo has been sitting here on the floor with me.  It’s hard to believe he’s going on 6 months old.  He has his mind set to crawl – if only he can get his legs to work with his arms.  So far he thinks the way to do it is only with his hands.  He reaches forward, grabs a handful of carpet and pulls himself forward.  He doesn’t move far, but the idea is there.  Most of the time, he just spins in circles.

The Little Kicks

We’re getting pounded by some storms right now.  Should be over in a couple of hours –  giving way to much cooler weather tomorrow.  I think the high is supposed to be only 62 degrees.

We made a late run to Home Depot this evening.  Lily was asleep when we pulled in.  Neither of them (Lily and Leo) have slept much today.  Should be an early, and quiet evening around here.

A quick thought… You’re older than me, so there!

The Parking Spot

We hit the mall this morning.  Lots on sale.  Not sure if anyone was buying anything, but there were some good sales to be had.

I, however, was incredibly irritated five minutes into the trip.  I went this morning with the intention of getting a pair of jeans.  Diane stopped at Abercrombie.  I looked for a few minutes and got bothered by the fact that it was impossible to navigate a stroller through the store.  Then there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to the order.  Jeans were here, they were there.  I couldn’t find anything so I left.  Lily and I went down to get a drink while Diane stayed and pulled out some clothes for me to come back and try on.  When I walked in, someone turned on the music.  Loud.  How am I going to shop with that garbage blaring?  I gathered up the pile Diane wanted me to try on and went to the changing rooms.  Locked.  Now I’ve got to find someone to unlock the changing room.

Ok, let’s see what Diane has picked out.  Some kind of a light sweater.  Don’t like it, not even going to try it on.   A dress shirt.  Sleeves too long – forget it.  Finally, a pair of jeans.  First of all – I don’t like button-fly.  Secondly, they are too long.  And last – I can’t stand changing clothes in a unisex changing room.  And to make matters worse – it has a high door.  Everyone outside can see what I’m doing from the knees down.  I grabbed the wad of clothes I had come to try on and dumped them in the barrel outside the door and headed on out.  A complete waste of my time and now I’ve got to try and not let this ruin my trip to the mall.

But really – who can shop in that place?  The music was loud, it stunk to high-heaven of their cologne samples that were sprayed everywhere, you can’t find anything and you have no privacy in the changing rooms.  I won’t be back there again.

The Alternate Side

Long day here.  I babysat both while Diane spent FOUR hours at the salon.  They offered her wine and a hand massage.  I, meanwhile, vacuumed and changed four diapers.

Lily, Leo and I were sitting outside on the porch late this afternoon when Lily came over and whispered (very excitedly), “Dadda – look at the hawk!”  Sure enough, sitting on her playground was a massive hawk.  Beautiful bird.  We sat there and watched him for a minute and, eventually, a squirrel came scampering down the fence.  No doubt, on his way to the feeders we have under the tree.  Anyways, the hawk is five or six feet from the fence.  The squirrel came down the fence and JUMPED from the fence to the playground!!  Right under the hawk!  We both let out an “ohhh” and Lily said, “What is that stupid squirrel thinking?”

We are expecting rain tomorrow.  Sixty percent chance.  For those who don’t live in Florida, 60% chance is pretty good.  Really, anything less than that and you might as well plan on going to the beach.

Ahh…Friday

Our Friday began a little earlier than usual this morning.  Lily was up at 5:30 and not really in a good mood this morning.  Probably because she didn’t go to sleep until almost 9 last night.  And on top of that, I had a rather restless nights sleep.  Turns out I had the wrong pillow.  It was terrible!  I fought with that thing all night – never got comfortable.  I didn’t know it wasn’t the right pillow but apparently Diane did.  So I’m blaming her.

Did I hear right?  The tiger that attacked/killed out in California was haunted?

I’m just amazed…I ordered a document from the State of Florida yesterday that I needed quickly.  Know when I’ll get it?  Today!  Less than 24 hours from when I ordered it and it’s out for delivery for this morning.

Cloudy still this morning.  It’s nice – low 70’s.  Sounds like it’ll stay this way until late Saturday.  Clearing and cooler on Sunday.  Not sure what we’ll do this weekend.  I’d like to spend some time in the garage.  I’ve got to get the high chair cleaned up and maybe put a fresh coat of poly on it so Leo can sit with us at the table.

Oh, I’m so going to blog that…

Cloudy here most of the day, even a sprinkle here and there.  Temps stayed in the low 70s – made for a nice walk tonight.

Lily took a good nap today.  Long nap.  That’s why we are going on 9 o’clock and she’s still up.

I think she’s making the case to skip her nap.

Thursday

Skipping lunch today.  I don’t expect to do well with it either.  I’m hungry and all I have at the office is candy.  Just one Peppermint Patty won’t hurt.  Right?  Actually, I have an errand to run, so maybe I’ll score a sandwich while I’m out.

It rained overnight.  Started around 4am and kept coming down until just after 7.  It’s breaking up now.  I think we got about an inch.  Maybe less.  But it was enough weather at 4am to keep me awake.  Diane pointed out something.  At what point do you become such an adult that sleeping during the rain no longer means peaceful sleep?  We both laid in bed wondering how things were faring in the storm.  What was left out? (nothing)  Is the gate blowing open?(no)  Is the lizard under cover? (yes, he’s in the kitchen) Will Lily wake up and be scared? (no)

If you are a fan of Georgia pecans, you might want gather up whatever you can find.  Sounds like 10% of the crop was damaged in a warehouse fire.

I have internet at the office.  Finally!

Say cheese

I went and got my passport photo today.  Sam’s Club will do it for $4.00.  Of course, you can’t just walk out of Sam’s with just a four dollar tab.  So I got some garbage bags, tea bags, wine, toilet paper and some Swiffer refills.  The lines weren’t bad at Sam’s.  I hadn’t been in a while because it’s always crazy.  Sorry Alan.

The internet seems to be working at the office.  We’ll see in the morning, but I’ve checked some things and it looks like I’m back in business.

Poor Lily – she skipped her nap again today.  I don’t know.  She needs that nap so bad – especially as the day gets to four, five and six o’clock.  By 7pm she’s done.  I got done reading her story tonight (a few chapters of Peter Pan) and I was giving her a hug – you know, all the typical good night stuff and she broke into tears.  Full sob.  “What’s the matter?”, I asked.  (Through her sobbing and tears) “Mom-m-m-my forgot to-to-to push back my cu-cu-cuticles”.  I told her it was OK for the night and we can do it tomorrow.  Then (this is hard to describe, but it’s one of my favorite things Lily does) she has this super forced smile through her tears.  The tears stop and she puts on a smile – it’s great.

Diane has Lily babysitting now!  It’s only for a minute  – but while Diane checks the mail or makes a bed – she puts Lily in charge of Leo.  Lily is so good with Leo.  She helps him sit up (of course she also likes to push him over) and plays with him and his toys.  These two are really going to be something to watch grow up together.

Speaking of making beds – I don’t believe in it.  I don’t remember ever making my bed.  I don’t remember caring about whether my bed was made or not.  It’s just one of those things that I think too much time is spent on.  Diane, however, makes the bed EVERY day.  Every day.   I don’t get it.  I’m adamantly opposed to making the bed.  By the time I get out of bed, the blankets and pillows are in the perfect spot.  Why not just leave them there?   It’d sure save me a lot of work the next night getting them just right again.

Ok, I’ll hear from Diane on this tomorrow for sure.

Hump Day

I really don’t want to discuss Verizon this morning.  It’s been since Thursday.  I mean, really.  You are a multi-billion dollar company and you can keep my internet up?  And when it’s down, you need 6 days?  Absurd.  I’m sick of dealing with it at the office so I’m at home until it’s up again.

Cool and breezy this morning.  54 degrees last I looked.   We were out yesterday evening and Lily asked, “When is it going to be winter?”  Seems the version of winter she might have seen on TV is quite different from our January.  We’re still mowing the lawns.  The flowers are still blooming.  The football fields are green!

You’re going to Hollywood

No internet at the office still.  Just plain annoying.

Both kids down early tonight.  Lily skipped her nap therefore she was asleep about 3 pages into The Little Mermaid.  (What did you think I read to her every night?  War and Peace?)  Leo got a nice warm bath and then he was gone.  For about an hour.  As I type, he’s sitting up with us.  He’s too cute.  It’s hard not to play with him when he keeps looking up at us with that smile.  I know we should be putting him back down.  Oh well.  What harm will one night do?

Cold most of the day today.  I wore my leather jacket and rabbit fur traders hat.  We have a fire in the fireplace and the heat is set.  I think we are expecting mid to upper 30’s tonight.  The lizard is inside and the heavy blankets are out.  Only one of those two will end up in the bed.  The dogs, however, will both end up in the bed before the end of the night.  Skeeter has a ninja quality about her that you wouldn’t believe!  She weighs in at about 80lbs and she can jump into the bed in the dead of night virtually unnoticed.  She is a “stealth dog” when she’s cold.

Well, it’s an early morning tomorrow!  Good night!

No surfing. Everyone out of the pool.

I arrived to the office without any internet service. Again. Thanks Verizon. Like I’ve said in the past, I don’t like doing this by cellphone, so I’ll be away until either I go home or Verizon gets their act together.

Afternoon

Had a nice chat with my favorite Dallas Cowboy fan.  I can sum up his half of our 30 minute conversation with these words…”Wait until next year”.    Ok.  Go eat your popcorn.  I will say one thing – you’ve got to give it to TO.  I agree with him – stick with your teammate, stick with your quarterback.

I found all kinds of things in the paper today that I would love to comment on but just about everything I thought of would get banned by the censor.   I could get myself into all kinds of trouble with the stories that should mean something to someone today.

Speaking of the censor,  it has been suggested that I take a week off from blogging and allow the censor to blog.  Kind of a “February Sweeps” for the internet.  I might consider it.

Monday, Monday

I don’t know what Leo was doing but I changed something like 5 diapers because they were leaking over the last 14 hours.  I know I put him in 3 different pair of pajamas.  Fortunately, they weren’t “bad”…if you know what I mean.

Lily wants to learn to drive.  She spent the drive to school asking me about everything I was doing and why I was doing it and how I was doing it.  Key, ignition, pedals, blinkers.  “Yes, Lily – Daddy needs the GPS”.  “I know I said you should put both hands on the steering wheel, but sometimes I like to drive like this”.  “I don’t know why there isn’t something on the steering wheel that works like the brakes”  Note to self:  store car keys out of girl’s reach.

Leo is asleep.  Lily is getting her hair blow dried.  Her hair is like spun gold when she gets it washed and conditioned like tonight.  It’s getting long too – now just past her shoulder blades.

I went to the grocery store while Lily napped today.  The store was filled with Cowboy jerseys.  I was asked three times – “Where’s your little helper?”

We got a little rain today.  Not sure it amounted to too much – probably just enough to wash the chalk art off my drive way.  Good – we’ll have a clean canvas tomorrow night.  While it rained, Lily and Diane went around the block for an hour or so and played with Lily’s friend.

I made burgers on the grill (it had cleared up by then) and now I’m just waiting for the end of the Dallas-New York game before I head upstairs for story time.

So, unless Diane gives me any material – I’m probably done on the computer for the night.  I’ll update the POTD here shortly, but other than that – Vinnie out!

Sunday

Let’s see…it’s only 10am.  We’ve had our pancakes.  I gave the kitchen a much needed thorough cleaning.

Leo is taking a nap and Lily is in the pool, or the sandbox or somewhere in between.  She’s really waiting for Leo to get up because somebody told her he could go in the pool with her.

We (minus Leo) are sitting outside on the back porch watching Lily and enjoying the weather.  It’s nice this morning – a little breeze and just a few puffy clouds blowing by.  The sun seems bright today.  I’ve been out here for a half hour and I’m still squinting.  Diane is sitting in the sun reading a magazine.  And I’m at the table sipping my coffee.  Diane told me I should come out in the sun because I look pewky white.  Again,  I doubt I could get away with a line like that.  I’ve seen pewky white.  And I’m not pewky white.  Lily, however, has lost her tan lines from the summer.

I suppose I need to head to the grocery store and maybe Lowe’s.  My pressure sprayer died this week.  I figure I can buy $15 worth of parts to fix it or spend $20 and just get a brand new one.

Finally a cloud has blocked the sun and I don’t have to squint.

The banana trees were knocked way back after the freeze last week.  The little damage I did get to the citrus trees is obvious now too.  The grass looks pretty good.  The cold probably did a good job killing some weeds.  I think I lost a couple of small oleander.  The bouganvilla really got burned as did my sea grapes up front.  They’re too big to cover, not sure what I could have done to help them.  I put a hot lamp under the sea grapes – that sometimes helps, but not this time.

Cloud is gone.

A quick pic

We don’t park Leo in front of the TV.  However, looks like he might be a football fan!
